The Teiyis Riders - Page 3 Empty Re: The Teiyis Riders

Post  TheElves Sun Dec 26, 2010 4:33 pm

Kaun gave Bayun one last reassuring look, then took Feythe's hand and vaulted onto Cyees' back. Elijah sat back upright with a grunt, taking up Ryn's reins, leaning on the saddle horn. Loren stood up from his lounging, giving Kaun a smirk as he passed. Kaun glowered at him, don't even start it. Loren just puffed a cloud of smoke into Kaun's face, fogging up his vision, as he leapt off the side of the hill, the air currents carrying him upwards. Then he circled down and hovered over the group. "Follow me," He called and pulsed his wings, taking off away from the village.

Nightfall's ebony veil began to shroud the earth as the company of elves and humans made their down a wellworn dirt path in the forest, and Kaun could tell all everyone was getting a bit tired. Leah and Elijah's eyes were drooping, Loren had abandoned flying to instead pace down the path in front of them, and Maus's feet were dragging the ground, kicking up dry dust from the crusted, hard earth. The air was filled with the loud plod of Loren's heavy padded feet and Maus's crisp hoof-falls. "Perhaps we should stop here," Kaun murmured at Feythe's ear.

Feythe allowed Cyees to follow Loren without her guidance, the pony was quick-minded, she'd know where to go.
She glanced from the dragon to Kaun, "I'm sorry, am I missing something?" Her slender eyebrows knitted together.

When night began to cast its shadow upon the ground, Feythe murmured gently to Cyees in her native language. She nodded, "Yes... I suppose we should..." the elf glanced at the children, "They actually look quite sweet, it's short lived though, isn't it?" She smiled and slid over the mare's neck and onto the ground.
Alexsys swooped down and landed neatly upon the ground. He arched his neck to make viewing his company easier, his papery wings folding against his body in one short movement. I need to rest. My wings are about to fall off.
The elf dipped her head and turned to Cyees. The pony stood stock still, her dainty legs positioned ready to canter. Her in-turned ears swivelled excitedly in their sockets. It alarmed Feythe how much the tiny mare didn't tire. No one could begin to wonder why she didn't; it just was.
She frowned, perplexed, "I guess we should make camp for the night. We could all do with a decent night's sleep," she smiled and began unloading the saddle bags from Alexsys' back.
Once all the bags were dumped on the floor, Feythe set about rolling out the sleeping mats around where there would be a fire, "Someone go gather some wood for a small fire please," she flung down a blanket with each mat, kicking two of them together for her and Kaun.

Kaun slid off Cyees' back and grinned as he let his leg fall to the ground. "Yes, quite." He said, watching as Leah slipped out of the saddle, eyes glazed, turning towards the sleeping bags and beginning to trudge over. But her left foot got caught in the stirrup and she fell. She hit the ground with amazing velocity, not even having time to guard her face with her hands. She let out a small cry as he hit the hard, dry earth, pulling her arm up around her head. Elijah said, "Oh, my god," and leapt off Ryn to her side. She was silent. Maus nuzzled the back of her soiled dress gently, snorting into it's dirt-encrusted fabric. Kaun ran his hand down Feythe's arm as he passed her to check on the girl. Loren blinked heavily and gave a big feline yawn before plopping down on a pile of pine needles. Obviously he wasn't too interesting in the child's welfare. Elijah dropped to one knee on the forest floor. "Leah?" A small sob from her, then Leah used her arms to push herself up from the hard ground. She sat up and pushed her hair away from her face, a few strands sticking to the blood that poured out of her nose and split lip. Her tears came out freely as she sniffed obstinately. "Oh, dear." Kaun muttered. Maus tilted his head at the girl, nosing her shoulder. She pushed him away with her slender fingers. Maus continued to stick his nose in her collarbone, until a small stream of steel-blue light crept out of his nostrils onto her skin. "Feel better?" The horse asked sagely. The girl winced, then nodded, leaning into her brother for support. He pet her head comfortingly, bringing the girl up into his lap.

Feythe turned away from the group that crowded around Leah. She unbuckled the straps which were used to hold the saddle bags in place from Alexsys' back and allowed it to drop to the floor, humming to distract herself from Leah's pitiful crying.
Finally, she allowed her averted eyes to gaze over at the girl, "I think someone's a little tired," she murmured softly, making sure her voice wouldn't break. She indicated to the sleeping mats closest to what would be the fire, "You two can sleep there."

In a bout of pride, Leah turned her face into Elijah's chest to hide her tears, sniffling and dripping blood onto his black wife-beater. He pulled her in closer, into a protective cocoon. His tough-guy exterior immediately dissolved as he put his chin on her head once more, his eyes nearly overflowing with tears, but somehow he kept them reined in. He clenched his jaw as he looked over to Feythe. "Sure." He muttered, lacing his arm under Leah's legs and lifting her up as if she weighed nothing. Her head snuggled deeper into his chest. She wiped a trail of blood from her nose, marking the back of her hand red. He gently set her down on one of the mats, where she curled up into a small ball. A final tear trickled over her cheek and then she was asleep. Elijah stretched out his arms, then nodded to Loren. "C'mon, scaly, let's go get some wood." Loren gave the boy a sort of an evil eye, then grinned and got up, obeying. "Whatever you say your majesty." Elijah gave his sister one last look of concern. Kaun said, "She'll be fine, Elijah," from where he sat at the edge of him and Feythe's double mat. Elijah nodded solemnly and walked into the forest with Loren at his side. The two looked shockingly at ease with eachother. Kaun laid down with a groan of relief and stretched himself out. "Lay down, dear." He said as Feythe distratced herself from the injured girl.

Feythe nodded and lay down next to Kaun. Her gaze fell upon Leah for a moment. Part of her wanted to go over and cradle her; the other half knew that acting in such a way would only end badly.
She sighed and shifted closer to her beau, "If anyone wakes me up tonight, I'll throw a fit," she murmured and leant over to peck his lips tenderly.
Cyees chuffed to herself. She pottered over to Leah, and lay down, resting her neck over the girl's shoulder protectively. After a few minutes, she fell asleep. Alexsys stretched himself out like a cat, kneading the ground with his rapier-keen talons. He coiled himself up into a tight ball and settled down for the night.

Kaun turned over and tilted his head to Feythe's, scooching closer and closer, until their eyelashes brushed eachother's. He smiled like a contented cat and kissed her perfect nose before closing his eyes for the last time that night.

Loren plodded along in the forest, picking up small dead logs and bunches of twigs with his thin tail and dropping them into the packs slung over his haunches. Elijah walked along beside him, a sullen look on his face as he plucked up kindling. "So," Loren began to break the silence that was beginning to annoy him. "What brings you here to our land?" Elijah snorted with a small and rare grin, stripping the leaves off a live bush as he passed it. "No room service back at the hotel." He joked to the dragon, who'd stopped and sat on his rump like a huge cat. He lowered his head to kid. "So, trouble in paradise and you run?" He gave him a critical eye. Elijah glared up at the dragon with his striking blue eyes. Loren liked that the kid wasn't afraid to look you in the eye, especially his very large golden ones. "Maybe. If it involves my little sister," the kid grumbled. "I could've handled it. But I knew she didn't like it there at the orphanage. So we left." "You're quite protective of that little girl, no?" "Yes." Elijah challenged him with a stare. "Good." Loren stood up, arching his neck over Elijah's head. "I like you already. So does Kaun." elijah looked puzzled. "Kaun?" He asked, then remembered hearing that name. "Oh." Loren snorted with amusement. "Let's get back."

Feythe's slim arms tangled around Kaun's body. She blew out a sigh, resting her head on his chest and pulling the blanket over their bodies. She snuggled down for what she thought was a well-earned sleep. As the elf's dreams started to envelope her, her recent thoughts darted through her mind; meeting Kaun; Yiryn and his strange Den of Souls; the children. A moment later, she collapsed into a deep sleep.

The Teiyis Riders - Page 3 Empty Re: The Teiyis Riders

Post  TheElves Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:00 pm

A sharp shaking woke Kaun up. He pulled the quilt away from his eyes to see a figure standing over him. As his blurry eyes focused he saw Yiryn looming over him with a smug smile. "Surprise!" The vampire cried, spreading his arms. Niya and Clarence stood behind him. Niya gave a lukewarm wave and began preening her hair. Clarence gave a warm grin. Kaun groaned and rubbed his eyes, sitting up and sliding the covers off himself. "What, you thought you'd get rid of us that easily?" Yiryn boasted. Kaun's leg shot out from under the coarse navy quilt to kick Yiryn in the shin. "OW!" Yiryn yelled, jumping back with a glare on his face. "What was that for? You not a morning person all of a sudden." Kaun had no energy for words. He simply blinked hard and stood up, still wearing his white linen shirt and black pants from yesterday. He stretched himself out, Yiryn still waiting for his greeting. Loren raised his head from Leah's side and gazed bleary-eyed at the trio of people. "Ah, visitors." Loren grumbled and got shakily to his feet, knowing that with Yiryn around, no one would be getting any sleep. Leah gave a girlish "mmmph" and sat up. She looked around, saw the three people from before, then lost interest and looked around for her borther. "Lijahhhh?" She whined. Kaun noticed the girl's mewls and looked around for her brother.

"Where's Elijah?" He asked Loren. Loren just shrugged and worked the earth with his thick claws. Elijah emerged from the forest with a load of kindling on his shoulder. "Here, here, right here, quit your worrying." He dropped the firewood onto a veritable heap of wood that gave the impression that the young man had been up a very long time. Why hadn't he ran? Kaun wondered, but decided not to question it.

Feythe opened her right eye slightly. She winced as the bright light from the early morning sun stung her eye.
"MMPH." She growled threateningly, rolling onto her stomach, as far away from the group as possible, "Which idiot woke me up?!" Although she was tired, the elf's foul mood forced her voice into an hysteric pitch.
Cyees jumped from where she lay next to Leah. She whickered to the young girl and licked her shoulder warmly. Her eyes stole a wary glance at Feythe, her clears flickering about nervously as she predicted that would happen next.

Leah stretched her arm out to the cute little pony to scratch her hard cheek. She looked the pony over with bleary sight, from her pure white coat to her intricate tattooes to her eyes. Her eyes....Leah looked closer. They were solid silver, with what seemed to be a cloud of smoke drifting around behind them. They held no pupils. Leah stared into their depths for a moment, seeing their sadness. She gave the pony a sympathetic smile, patting her shoulder before standing up unsteadily. Elijah came to her side, and gave her a hug. "How's your nose?" He asked. She muttered, "It hurts.", her face smooshed into his shirt. "Well, it must not hurt that much." He grinned and let her go. She leaned against his wide frame, scanning the road sleepily. The mid-morning sun shone brightly down on them, lighting the scene. The few strands of her dark hair that blew into her face were shining with red highlights. Leah heard the elf lady Feythe growl something angrily at the three people who's shown up when she was sleeping.

Kaun looked down at Feythe's back and sighed. "That would be this genius." He gave Yiryn a small grin and a light punch on the shoulder, walking past him. "Oh NOW you say hello," Yiryn joked. Kaun looked back. "That's because you're about to feel the wrath of the beast." He grinned cruelly as he reached Maus' side. The pony was just getting up from beside Loren, his head drooping and fine eyes glazed with fatigue. He gave a small sigh and shook out his dark grey locks. Elijah's eyes followed Kaun. "When are we going?" He asked without much enthusiasm.

"Well tell that genius that some people don't appreciate being woken up at some Hell-forsaken hour of the morning!" Feythe snapped and rolled onto her knees. She heaved herself to her feet steadily, brushing her hair back from her face, "I might as well stay up, it's not like I'm gonna be able to get to sleep again!" She growled, glaring at Yiryn, "Thank you very much you first class pillock!" With a frustrated shriek, the elf stormed off to find a pool of water in which she could wash her face in.
Cyees whickered to Leah. She danced around on the toes of her obsidian hoof, head-butting the girl in the crook of her back gently. She then sprang into a trot and flounced her way over to Maus, who she greeted with a warm nuzzle.

Leah giggled as the pony gave her a light shove. Elijah glared back for a moment to see who was shoving his sister, then saw it was only the pony and looked back at Kaun, who was straightening Maus' saddle on his back. Maus stretched his neck and legs, nipping at Cyees' small rump. He gave a sly snort and pawed the ground impatiently. Kaun finished adjusting Maus' girth and turned to Elijah. "Now." He gave Elijah a lukewarm grin. Then he looked around to notice Feythe was nowhere to be seen. He sighed. She always chose the exact wrong moment to leave. "Yiryn..." Kaun accused with his muscular arms crossed, giving Yiryn a dirty look. Yiryn just shrugged. "Wasn't my fault." Kaun just shook his head. He leaned against Maus' round barrel and waited for his love to show up. "We wait for Feythe, and then we go." His words were followed by an indignant smirk.

The evening sun cast a warm red glow over the land of Kaureth Isli. The sight of the castle in the distance unsettled Kaun. He rubbed his eyes. What's wrong? Maus though to his friend, coming up to Cyees' side and casting a worried glance in his direction. Leah was asleep on his back, arms hanging down from his neck and swaying with each step. Kaun just shook his head. I don't know how we're going to do this. Loren suddenly swooped down in front of them, just as a bird would, a very large... scaly bird. He raised his wings, blocking their way. "I DO!" He roared, showing all his three hundred gleaming, gold-tipped teeth. Leah awoke as Maus half-reared beneath her. She grabbed the reins and tried to calm him. Ryn just stared at Loren dumbly. Elijah glared. Kaun tilted his head. "And just how is that?" He inquired sarcastically. Loren dipped his head, revealing his twenty-foot long back. Then he drew his head back up, large golden eyes gleaming with a fervor. His mouth flashed, and Kaun was suddenly being plucked up and plopped behind the reptile's neck. "Hop on, children. We're going for a ride!" He declared, outstretching a wing to the children and company to climb on with.

WHEWT.

A loud crash echoed from inside the long, narrow jail building. Kaun looked in anxiously to see Loren dashing around at the end of the corridor that held all the cells. He was chasing the warden about his desk, snapping at the frightened man's ankles like a terrier. Leah turned to the little pony and gave the area in between her enchanting eyes a scratch, to distract her from the dragon and elf lady's argument. Then she looked up at Kaun, who was chuckling amusedly, his face hidden as he poked it into the doorway. "What are we doing here? I thought we had to meet the king or something." She inquired, while actually not caring much either way. As long as she had Elijah by her side, it didn't really matter anymore. Her upbringing had taught her to, basically, just accept whatever was thrown at her and get over it. And that's what she did. Maybe I'm going crazy, she thought. Maybe this is all a dream, and I'll wake up back in good old Turning Leaves Children's Home. She shook her head to clear it. Kaun pulled his head back out of the doorway then. "Well, I'll be honest with you." He said, crossing his arms. "I'm not exactly supposed to be here. So we're going to have to..surprise him." He gave a shrug and looked back at the action going on inside the jail. Suddenly, a yell, a thunder, and the warden flew out of the jail just past Kaun's head, landing in a patch of tall field grasses. Leah gasped, pulling Elijah closer to her by his black wifebeater. Kaun walked back to let Loren prance out of the jail, a smug look on his face. "Alright ladies, welcome to Kaureth Isli."

Feythe followed Kaun's lead down the hall in a hellish manner. Her arms were folded so tightly across her chest, it restricted her breathing. Neither did she notice, nor would she care if she ever did. After being thoroughly humiliated by that blasted dragon, nothing seemed quite as worse. She kept her back angled at Alexsys. Just to make sure he knew that he was getting the cold shoulder.
Alexsys chortled and nudged Kaun with his snout. Felines are so fickle; I don't know how you cope with her. Aren't you hearing birds yet? He jested, grinning toothily.
A guard dressed in a uniform that bore the kingdom's crest jumped out of no where. "Halt!"
The crimson dragon regarded him boredly. The guard wavered under his glare, then proceeded to advance on the group, "I said hal-AGH!"
Alexsys whipped his lithe tail around, throwing the man backwards into a wall. The moan emitted by him suggested he'd been knocked unconscious.

Kaun looked over at Feythe, assessing whether or not she was hearing the dragon's monologue, or if she even cared. But he couldn't withhold a smile. "It takes love and patience, my friend. But I do believe I have seen vultures circling a time or two." He leaned in to kiss her on the cheek. Then he saw a guard clad in red and gold; the kingdom's colors. A rush of memory flooded back to him...but he didnt recognize the man. After a failed attempt to try and interrogate them, he wound up in a heap next to the wall. Kaun quirked an eyebrow. Leah's blue eyes widened as she walked past the crumpled body. Elijah wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer, shielding her eyes from the sight. "Is he..." Leah couldn't muster the last word. Elijah shook his head. "No, he's just not going to be happy when he wakes up." He forced on a smile. Leah didn't buy it, her eyes drifting back behind them to his body. Maus walked up, blocking her view, and nibbled at her hair. She gave a childish grin, her thoughts diverted, and looked back ahead. Loren led the group down the ornate stone corridor, peering around every at every corner they passed. Not a soul was to be seen. This is not right, Kaun thought uneasily. When he was growing up, the castle was always a hub of activity. I wonder what's happened... He reached for Feythe's hand, for reassurance. Then Loren came to the end of the corridor, a stone wall which held a huge set of wooden double doors. "The throne room, I presume?" He looked back at Kaun. Kaun nodded nervously. Leah scrunched up closer to her brother, if that was even possible. Elijah managed to keep up a brave face but inwardly his mind was racing. What would the king decide to do with them? He could only imagine the worst.

CRASH. Loren headbutted the doors open, revealing a long hall with an immense dining table and a raised platform at the far end, which held the throne. Which held the king. "Hello, my son."
